I'd also like to clarify that I did note that she was gone but didn't get concerned until today (3 days gone can be normal) and when I heard him attempt to lift a big three times I checked and found her stuck under there while he tried to dig her free and lift the branch. ☹️🙏

My female beetle had been stuck under a piece of wood for 4 days. I observed my male trying to free her multiple times, going as far as nearly breaking his horn for her. If beetles are automata without any consciousness, what could possibly lead him to do this? Which instincts?
