One of the most exciting uses for Nockchain will be verification of the physical world. Nockchain hardware will make it more profitable to build physical systems with integrity—and too expensive to build anything less. For example, think about something like food quality, or knowing exactly where any product comes from. Imagine you are one of the most honest, dedicated cattle farmers in the world. You'd love to prove to your customers that you do things the right way because that's great marketing! Today it's impossible: Most "organic" stickers at the grocery store are unreliable, and all the various QR code gimmicks are easily faked. So it doesn't help you if you are truly one of the best farmers in the world, because all the fakers do it, too. Now consider how Nockchain changes this completely. 1. First, the most honest farmers choose to use hardware and sensors that post proofs directly to Nockchain simply because that will be a better, faster, cheaper, and more reliable way to run their own business—to organize and prove, if only to themselves, the highest standards of quality and security across any complex organization. This will also produce a marketable record of quality that is similar to the 'organic' sticker, even though it's not radically superior yet (they could theoretically be faking it). 2. Then independent rating agencies emerge (just like we see today) to start doing their own checks and posting their own proofs to Nockchain. Right now, we just have to trust those inspectors are honest! And they're not, they're corrupt. But Nockchain will effectively force them to be honest—that is what consensus means! 3. If all the proofs from all the hardware controlled by multiple actors converge, then you can finally know it's true. "Organic beef" in a Nockchain world will be the most reliably organic beef in history. The world has never had anything like this before. As more people and businesses join the network, it becomes more and more disastrous to lie about anything—even physical processes. Best of all, people can do this without sharing private personal details about any of the underlying processes. The farmer can prove his beef is organic without any competitors getting to see anything about their hard-earned trade secrets. Nockchain creates a network effect for the truth in general.
