@Alnooryguray @curetonl There are absolutely cultural and localized differences in how people view and interact with online spaces. It may be more or less difficult depending on the group which is why its so critical to do your research prior to launch.
English

@toddnilson @curetonl I mean does your physical environment/ country you live in has influence on the culture being transactional or collaborative?
English

Yes @curetonl "transactional community" is an oxymoron. This ☝️. Early definitions of community contrasted high trust and shared values vs. low trust and highly transactional!
English

@Alnooryguray @curetonl Could you say a little more about that or give an example of what you mean?
English

@toddnilson @curetonl Does Transactional community have anything to do with certain national cultures?

@ECPPage @fitbit How does scaling happen? By further segmentation of interests into subgroups, essentially creating more intimate meeting spaces where deeper (Dunbar #) connections are possible, even in that massive community. community.fitbit.com/t5/Community/c…

@ECPPage Love your curiosity-driven mindset, @GeorgeSiosi ... 100% agree that it is the corrective to calcification, fear, and resistance to technology!
English

@ECPPage When culture is opaque, impenetrable, immutable, you get a cult instead of a community.
English

@ECPPage Community member "counting" is largely meaningless. @GeorgeSiosi is spot on saying that the biggest online communities can have just 1% actual participation.

What does this mean in business?
👉 Push back against purely numbers-driven decisions.
👉 Lean into storytelling to convey the emotional value of your work (q.v., see my talk w Christina Persson: lnkd.in/geieqVJQ).
👉 Trust your instincts, esp. when backed by experience.
