Here it is: After a 2 week long board bringup the CMM2 can now run #DOOM and #Linux. Also first time ever playing DOOM with a Nunchuk controller (which does actually emulate an AT keyboard here, but that is a whole nother story) twitter.com/Manawyrm/statu…

It can talk to CF cards in 8bit mode, HDD in 16bit mode and also talk to CD drives in ATAPI mode to get them to play audio CDs. Software is written in C, MCP23S17 port expanders are directly controlled by the Linux kernel, my program just talks to GPIO pins via libgpiod.

Another fun weekend project: ATA/ATAPI Hat for Raspberry Pi! Basically it's just a 32 pin GPIO port expander. All the magic is done in software so it's pretty configureable. Great way to learn how ATA works, I've also learned a lot about ATAPI, aka SCSI over ATA.
