And this has been worsened by the attached graph. It's nothing to do with lack of effort by NHS staff but lack of the investment needed in infrastructure; beds, kit, theatres & support staff.

I was on the picket line yesterday, standing shoulder to shoulder with resident doctors across England on strike. Not only did the Government shift the goalposts at the last minute by reducing investment and stretching it over three years, they axed 1,000 extra training jobs too. This dispute will be settled with a credible offer on both jobs and pay. Until then, resident doctors will continue to stand up for our profession.

Horrifying story. Two points worth highlighting here: 1️⃣ This is what making the NHS “less reliant” on doctors looks like. 2️⃣ Had the BMA’s safe scope of practice for PAs been adopted by the employer, this harm could never have happened. Patients deserve better than this.
