I am a classical Libertarian. Not a fan of oppression or government that thinks it’s smarter than the people that pay for it.

Today in Kyiv, a Summit is taking place that has brought together 24 countries, primarily from Europe. All of our European neighbors are represented: Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldova, Romania, and Belarus. We all support the aspiration of the Belarusian people to free themselves from Russian interference, and we know that Russia is now trying to drag Belarus even deeper into this war against Ukraine. We value every expression of support from Belarusians for a free Ukraine, and we know that the day will come when there will once again be good-neighborly relations between our states – based on the real independence of both Ukraine and Belarus from Moscow. This is exactly what we discussed today with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and her team, who are visiting Kyiv. Ukraine has never been a threat to Belarus. And we are grateful to those Belarusians who stand with Ukraine – now, when the fate of both our independence and the independence of every nation that borders Russia is being decided.

Swedish Ambassador Martin Åberg visited the sites destroyed in the russian attack: “My name is Martin Åberg, and I am the Ambassador of Sweden to Ukraine. Today is May 25, the day after a massive russian missile attack. A devastating strike on Kyiv. What you see behind me is one of the sites visited by all invited ambassadors so they could witness the consequences with their own eyes. Six russian missiles struck a shopping center, a market, and the entrance to a metro station. It is simply staggering.” Source: Embassy of Sweden in Kyiv

Have you heard of anyone who has got out of the military while stationed overseas and chose to remain in that country instead of returning to the U.S.?

Big thanks to Navy Times and Claire Barrett for resharing the story of Iwo Jima veterans Billy Byrd (100) and Don Graves (101), and for sharing my post. That probably explains the wave of new followers. Their story deserves to be told a million times over. 🇺🇸 Thank you again.

Empty shelves and rising costs are hitting rural Alaska hardest. Too many communities in the Bush are being left without the basics: food, fuel, groceries. We need systemic change.

"There is no supply ship coming..." I flew CH-53E helicopters in Desert Storm. Before the push north, a pilot asked our CO when the resupply ship was coming. We needed .50 cal. We needed engines. The Saudi sand was so fine it bypassed our particle separators and ate the compressor blades. We were throwing compressor stalls on landing. One of our aircraft caught fire, lit the magnesium gearbox, and burned to the ground before the war started. The CO's answer: there is no ship coming. The American public thought we were an unstoppable machine. We were rationing pistol ammunition. I learned at the Naval Postgraduate School, taking Maritime Strategy, that Congress had spent years diverting conventional ammunition and parts funding into new missile programs. Promises to backfill next year. They never did. By 1990 the backlog was unrecoverable. Today we have burned through half our THAAD stockpile defending Israel. No new interceptors delivered since 2023. None coming until 2027. Trump is now wavering on the Taiwan arms sale. There is no supply ship coming.

During the Libertarian National Convention, I gave a lot of thought to what my next step should be. After spending the weekend with my fellow libertarians, that path feels much clearer. Stay tuned for an official announcement.

Today is Memorial Day in America – a day of national respect for each and every person who defended America and freedom in uniform. Without the United States, there simply would have been no European freedom – and the 20th century proved this absolutely clearly. Now Russia’s full-scale war is not only against Ukraine, but also against the very format of such a Europe – a free, democratic, united Europe. It is Euro-Atlantic unity that has been, and remains, the foundation of the world’s economic and, in many respects, social development after World War II. Ukraine is grateful to the United States for supporting our defense and to all compassionate American hearts that continue to support Ukraine. This war must be ended – and ended in a dignified way. And America’s role in this – America, which Russia fears – truly can be one of leadership: in supporting our defense of life here and our ability, later on, to help defend life for other nations, those who truly need it. Thank you, America!

Alaska’s Rolling Thunder veterans motorcycle club is such an important, moving presence at our annual Memorial Day ceremonies. I commend these veterans and the many Alaskans who organize tributes to our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. 🇺🇸

“General Order No. 11, Headquarters, Grand Army of the Republic, Washington, D.C., May 5, 1868: The 30th day of May 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land. In this observance, no form or ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit. We are organized, comrades, as our regulations tell us, for the purpose, among other things, “of preserving and strengthening those kind and fraternal feelings which have bound together the soldiers, sailors, and marines who united to suppress the late rebellion.” What can aid more to assure this result than by cherishing tenderly the memory of our heroic dead, who made their breasts a barricade between our country and its foes? Their soldier lives were the reveille of freedom to a race in chains, and their death a tattoo of rebellious tyranny in arms. We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. All that the consecrated wealth and taste of the Nation can add to their adornment and security is but a fitting tribute to the memory of her slain defenders. Let no wanton foot tread rudely on such hallowed grounds. Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten, as a people, the cost of free and undivided republic. If other eyes grow dull and other hands slack, and other hearts cold in the solemn trust, ours shall keep it well as long as the light and warmth of life remain in us…” -Gen. John A. Logan
