Muslims plundered North Africa. The Colonizers generally did not take Africa by force. Though they did put down uprisings. Ethiopia is an exception because they fought back and did not let the Europeans in. Africans has done a good job massacring themselves: Ethiopia 1984-85, Somalia for decades but specifically in the early 90's, The Rwandan Genocide in 1994, Civil War in South Sudan and I can go on and on. Africans killing each other was not a post Colonizing phenomena. Much of the slave trade was fueled by Africans warring with each other and selling the defeated tribe as slaves. For the most part(not in every case) the Colonial era in Africa brought infrastructure, stability, and modernization to Africans. Disease was the main culprit for the death and displacement of Native Americans. Like the African tribes, Native American tribes went to war and raided neighboring tribes all the time. Some tribes worked with the colonist and settlers and some did not. Australia was not conquered. Algeria was a war, not a systematic killing of people. The French were the worst when it came to colonizing. They did not handle that situation well at all. I won't defend the French on that one.

@realMaalouf You are pathetic. And who plundered Africa and killed so many of its people? Who killed and displaced the Native Americans in America? Who waged war on the Australians and seized their land? Who colonized Algeria and killed more than a million people?

Reminder: the Crusades were a response to over 400 years of Islamic aggression against Christians and Europe. 632: Muhammad dies. 635: Muslims conquer the Christian city of Damascus. 636: Muslims conquer the Christian city of Antioch. 637: Muslims conquer the Holy Land. 639: Muslims conquer the first Christian country Armenia. 641: Muslims conquer the Coptic Christian country of Egypt. 650: Muslim armies reach southern Italy and Cyprus, taking thousands of captives as "slaves" and "concubines." 711: Muslims invade Spain, and by 715, they have overrun most of it. 717: Muslims besiege Constantinople but are repelled. 730: Muslims invade France, only to be stopped by Charles Martel at the Battle of Tours. 792: The ruler of Al-Andalus calls for the invasion of France, and Muslim armies are assembled to attack it again, but they are repelled. 827: Muslims invade Sicily and Italy, persecuting monks. Sicily remains under Islamic rule until 1092. 846: Muslims invade Rome and force the Pope to pay tribute. 848: A third invasion of France occurs, and they are repelled for the third time. 909: Muslims occupy Sardinia. 937: The Church of the Holy Sepulcher is burned down by Muslims, and more churches in Jerusalem are destroyed. 1009: Destruction of the Church of the Resurrection in Jerusalem. 1012: Beginning of al-Hakim’s oppressive decrees against Christians. 1071: Turkish Muslims attack the Byzantines and occupy much of Anatolia. 1094: Byzantine emperor Alexios I Komnenos asks Western Christendom for help against Muslim Turkish invasions. 1095: Pope Urban II finally declares the First Crusade.

Saul's conversion in Acts 9 dismantles at least three commonly held evangelical beliefs: 1. Decisional regeneration - Saul did not pray the "sinner's prayer." Saul fell to the ground, and Christ sovereignly saved him. Saul was Christ's "chosen instrument." 2. Comfortable life - Referring to Saul, Christ said, "I will show him how much he must suffer for My name." Jesus wasn't exactly seeker-friendly. 3. God doesn't make anybody sick - Immediately upon saving him, Christ struck Saul with blindness for three days. Put Acts 9 in your seeker-friendly, Word-Faith prosperity gospel pipe and smoke it. 😉

@HistoryWJacob There is a lot of randomness or chance in football. That's what makes it more exciting.

Okay, since you asked, here’s my American opinion. Soccer will never be as popular in America as football for 3 reasons: 1. The Fake Injuries Players are incentivized to flop because the other team is more likely to get a penalty. In football, it is the opposite. If a player has a real injury, play toughs it out and plays through it, it is seen as heroic. Americans like toughness and grit. 2. Chance Goals Many goals are scored by chance as opposed to skill. The chaos at the net when the ball is near is remarkable. Defenders blocking the goalie’s line of sight. The ball bouncing and ricocheting off of random body parts often determines if the ball goes in the net or out of bounds. In football, there are some elements of chance, but because players are allowed to use their hands, the points are primarily scored based on skill. Less is left to chance. Americans like control. 3. Low Scoring In football, it is still challenging to score, but it happens much more often. Also, every play has a chance for gratification and excitement: a first down, a big catch, a big hit, a sack, an interception, etc American like constant excitement.

@sfliberty My understanding was that Ethiopia has very fertile land alongside the great rift valley. Owners of the land were forcibly removed in the late 70s to non fertile land so that Belgium and other European countries could have large scale farming. How far from the truth is this?

In July 1985, over a billion people watched Live Aid. Months earlier, Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie had written "We Are the World." All of it was a response to a famine in Ethiopia. Almost nobody remembers who actually caused the famine. 🧵

This is really, really, really simple, and doesn't require one to know a single thing about Star Wars or "the lore" or "the books" or any such thing. You just have to ask one simple question: if this obvious weapon is this insanely powerful, why was it never used before or again?
MarthsBars (FE, SW Mando/ST/TROS fan. Also on 🦋)@MarthsBars

I'll always defend TLJ's Holdo Maneuver as a stunning & crucial scene, & one that *works* in Star Wars. The takes claiming it "broke canon" are still so dumb. Eckhartsladder's animation saying it'd fail WITHOUT explaining WHY (just "it'd fail bc I said so") is still the worst.

Bye bye YouVersion. People generally expect you to only host decent and safe Bible translations. At least that’s what I expect. I’d recommend using caution if you still use the YouVersion Bible app.

Piers Morgan asks his gay guest to spell out the full LGBTQ acronym. He has no idea — and that’s when Piers Morgan completely loses it. GUEST: “It’s LGBTQ+.” MORGAN: “No, it’s LGBTQIA2SL+.” GUEST: “Right, sure.” MORGAN: “What does any of that mean?” GUEST: “Are you now going to test me on what that is?” MORGAN: “Because I have no idea.” MICHAEL KNOWLES: “2S means two-spirit.” MORGAN: “Two-spirit. What’s that?” GUEST: “I think that is an American-Canadian…” KNOWLES: “You have no idea, do you?” MORGAN: “Brilliant! You have no idea! We’re celebrating something. Dungeons and Dragons Cleric of Jesus Christ: If you are a Christian, would you object to a player playing as a Cleric of Jesus Christ in your game? Assume good intent. This is not being done as mockery, or an attempt at blasphemy or the like. I'm not saying they're theologically correct, only that their intentions are not malicious. Assume that, through some esoteric means (it's D&D, stranger things have happened) the character, as part of their backstory, found Jesus Christ and began to spread the Word to the best of their ability (the Character lacks access to centuries of Christian doctrine, mistakes will be made). They request their choice of Life, Peace, and Knowledge domains (alternatively Light as well but not sure how well a Cleric of Jesus Christ chucking fireballs plays out). Further, their intent is to play it straight. They would follow the tenets and other core beliefs as much as possible within the realm of D&D... Symbol: A simple wooden cross (or a lamb, or the ichthys/fish). Favored Weapon: None, or open hand/unarmed strike. Worshipers: The poor and forgotten, repentant sinners, the sick, healers, those who suffer for righteousness, and anyone seeking forgiveness and new life. They would focus on devoted selfless service, humility, charity, and living the Sermon on the Mount. Tenets: Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind; love your neighbor (even enemies) as yourself. Forgive as you have been forgiven (seventy times seven). Blessed are the meek, the merciful, the pure in heart, the peacemakers. Take up your cross daily, self-denial and sacrificial love. “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” I mean they're really looking to go the distance here. Finally, and I want to make this clear, this isn't meant as some gotcha or a hidden cruelty. I'm asking because I've never actually heard this particular question addressed and I trust people to understand the gravity of the discussion. So, would you object? And would them being a Christian themselves influence your decision at all?
