Quel aveuglement.
Anders Fogh Rasmussen@AndersFoghR

Normalising relations with Russia while it kills Ukrainians is not diplomacy. It is surrender. Relying on cheap Russian energy was a strategic mistake. Europe learned that the hard way. This is not the time to blink. We must stay the course on Ukraine.

The irony in PM Bart De Wever's warning that Europe must act "without being naïve" towards Putin, while proposing that we step back into the "cheap" Russian energy trap, is hard to miss. Negotiations are not the problem. Europe has negotiated with Moscow for decades. The problem is the illusion that a favourable deal exists while Russia occupies Ukrainian territory and continues its war. That we could "normalise" relations, regain "cheap energy", and somehow keep our red lines - Ukraine’s sovereignty - intact. With a regime that openly weaponises energy dependence. If Europe signals that energy prices matter more than Russian aggression, it gives Moscow exactly the leverage it seeks. And Russian energy was never truly cheap. The price was never just euros per megawatt-hour. It was political leverage, energy blackmail, and today - war on our continent. Perhaps the most dangerous habit in European policy is pretending that a comfortable deal with the Kremlin is always just one negotiation away. This exact brand of transactional complacency is what Putin banked on in February 2022. He had seen Europe trade its geopolitical spine for pipeline gas before, and he bet his entire invasion on the assumption that we would eventually fold again. We shouldn't prove him right.

Belgium’s PM Bart de Wever: “We must normalise relations with Russia and regain access to cheap energy. That is common sense. [...] We must end the conflict in the interest of Europe, without being naïve towards Putin.” ft.com/content/4ce019…

Since 1956, Viktor Orbán is the first to invite the Russians into our country. We demand an immediate end to foreign interference in the Hungarian elections. According to information from multiple sources, agents of the Russian military intelligence service (GRU) arrived in Budapest weeks ago with the aim of influencing the outcome of the Hungarian elections. They previously did the same in Moldova. It is utterly unprecedented that a government on the brink of collapse is attempting to influence the Hungarian elections through foreign interference in its own interests.

In the French Alps for school break, I met two Russian families…One, living in Moscow and the other from St. Petersburg. I asked them about the war…they weren’t really concerned as both men were in their 40s and haven’t been affected by the war as of yet. Why does the west allow Russian passport holders travel freely around Europe for vacation? Are we serious about this war or is it just casual? Why not complete travel bans?! #Russia

"Hundreds of Ukrainian women and girls have reported sexual violence by Russian troops during the nearly four years of full-scale war in Ukraine, according to Ukrainian authorities and aid groups. The actual number of victims, advocates say, is most likely far higher. Some of the women say they have been impregnated by Russian soldiers and live with children who will forever remind them of their attackers. Others have told of being forced to serve as sex slaves for entire companies of Russian troops. Still others say their life became a waking nightmare after they were incapacitated and raped by Russian forces. The New York Times spoke with more than a dozen women who said they had been sexually abused by Russian troops." @Sara_Cincurova @lynseyaddario nytimes.com/2026/02/20/wor…
