The layoffs at the Washington Post are an occasion for me to end my 45-year journalism career. I'm grateful to @loriamontgomery and @SobelFitts for letting me cap it at the Post; we didn't expect such tumult. 2/3 of one of the best tech teams in journalism is in play; hire them!

I've been laid off after 6 years as a copy editor at The Washington Post, where almost daily I edited some of our most harrowing foreign news coverage, incl. hundreds of stories on wars in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan + elsewhere. I've also been proud to serve as @PostGuild secretary✊

I was laid off from The Post today, from a dream job working in visual investigations. I'm sad for affected colleagues and for the meaningful, impactful work we won't be able to complete together.
