I get spam calls or texts ten times a day. I of course am a cantankerous bastard and report and hang up on all of them. But this flood means they must be getting successful hits on more credulous, vulnerable people. This is a real problem.

A member of a former ward of mine had Down Syndrome. I remember when he became a priest and wanted to bless the sacrament. His dad and the bishop worked a ton with him until he could do it unassisted. The first time he blessed the sacrament on his own, it was not perfect, but there was not a dry eye in the chapel. To this day, I have never seen anyone smile bigger than he did when he finished and stood up. It was one of the most profoundly spiritual experiences of my life, to feel the love of the Savior for him, and for me, through his simple act of service. I’ll never forget it. After high school, he wanted to serve a mission. He was called as a service missionary. He worked in a Bishop’s Storehouse. I have never met anyone more excited and proud to wear his name tag. The world needs more people like him. He radiates pure joy wherever he goes.

@1000HolyPlaces My dream vacation is to take as long as it takes to drive Route 66 with my wife from Chicago to Santa Monica and stop at as many places along the way that sound fun. Ice Cream Museum would be a definite must visit.

I’ve made my position on LGBT issues very clear. I’ve made my position clear to my kids as well. But, if one of them ever tells me they are LGBT, I am not getting into all that. Something else, even more important, comes first… A big hug from their dad, and reminder… “I love you more than anything. I will always be your dad. You are part of this family. Thank you for trusting me enough to confide in me.” Guess what. You can be that kind of support for your kid without compromising on right and wrong. It is what Jesus did. We can do the same.

@MamaCAllen At Baptism and every week when we partake of the Sacrament, we covenant to be willing to TAKE upon us the NAME of Jesus Christ. Are we living up to that covenant? Have we received His image in our countenance?
