Unlike Chloe his role in the grand scheme of things is beyond both Alya & Chloe and tying him to Marinette doesn't work the same. I'm confused why Felix is brought up too

No offense but it’s definitely not a retcon. We see multiple times throughout the series that her previous bad behaviors always come back and continue to be prominent in her character. It ultimately played a part on her doubling down on how she initially acted.
