@vanessabuildsai @StatisticUrban As an American physicist, it’s OK to use both systems. The American system is superior for communicating basic context. The metric system is superior for scientific purposes as an American I love using both.

It's insane to me that most Americans can't even comprehend metric units and Celsius without converting. I understand it's not the system used, but it IS the international system, used in all scientific fields and ~every other country. Useful to at least instill the basics.

X is a bubble, spending 5 minutes here makes you feel you missed out on the AI revolution and will never catch up. Talking to people in the real world, even those who work at Apple, Netflix, Facebook... makes you realize 99% of people still use AI as chatbot.

@buccocapital I’m seeing the same behaviors. Big company employees largely ignoring AI, working business as usual, business owners and startups going all in. Startups have always had to be more resourceful but this goes beyond that, it’s a sentiment divide.

I have a front row seat to how AI is playing out across 2 groups; large Fortune 500 companies, and business owners / entrepreneurs. What I'm seeing is small business owners (of all ages and backgrounds) embrace AI, upskill, and look for leverage. Big company leaders, while enthusiastic, are understandably cautious, and limit access and usage. Meanwhile employees seem disinterested, some are annoyed, and most are not really looking for ways it can be applied in their jobs (I see this with friends across many large, global companies). This feels like an opportunity for small companies, startups, and employees who are up-skilling outside of work, 5 years out, those who leaned in today will come out ahead.

@JasenMitten 100%, you need domain expertise to call BS on AI outputs

Too many people (myself included), fall into the trap of trying to use AI tools to step outside of our knowledge base and skillset, in my opinion, this is a mistake. The problem with LLMs specifically is that they will almost always confidently give you an answer, and almost always encourage you and flatter you. If you can't tell when an AI tool is hallucinating and making mistakes, you will be worse off using these tools. In other words, if you can't judge the outcome you should not use it in that domain. To truly 10x outputs with AI tools you need to be able to guide it, assess quality, understand when it's going in the wrong direction, and prompt it to be on the right path. Use it outside of your domain to learn, use it within your domain to get 10x outcomes,

I don’t understand why Claude Cowork exists other than as a marketing wrapper to get non-technical people using agentic AI that we’re scared of trying Claude Code because they thought you have to be technical. There’s nothing I can think of that Cowork can do that Claude Code can’t and I’ve had at least one experience where Cowork failed to do a non-coding task that Claude Code could do

Change my mind: Claude Cowork is the most significant AI development for the average person. No other tool comes close for the not technically inclined.

One of my favorite sayings is "get comfortable being uncomfortable" You can't get the promotion, new business, relationship, or anything big and meaningful without stepping into discomfort. The one skill everyone needs to develop is the ability to navigate discomfort and willingly step into it.

I share this sentiment, though a couple things worry me, I'm curious what you think: 1) A lot of people need healthcare and cannot afford plans outside of employer groups <- We need to solve this problem to see a entrepreneurship boom 2) The negative sentiment against AI means a lot of people may not even try, they see anything AI-augmented as the enemy and "part of the problem" Outside of our "little" bubble on X, most people are not thinking this way, they are worried about layoffs, Skynet, and a potential recession.

The marginal cost of creating a company is approaching zero. And when the cost of creating something approaches zero, the number of things created approaches infinity. That's just math. We're about to see an explosion of new companies over the next 10 years.

@sama This should have been a major story across mainstream outlets, it gives me so much hope for an AI-integrated future. We need guardrails, but also need to be exploring all these use cases, including alternative and experimental treatments in terminal cases.

The coolest meeting I had this week with was Paul, who used ChatGPT and other LLMs to create an mRNA vaccine protocol to save his dog Rosie. It is amazing story. "The chat bots empowered me as an individual to act with the power of a research institute - planning, education, troubleshooting, compliance, and yes, real scientific design work in converting genomic data to a vaccine prescription and designing the treatment protocol around it. But they worked alongside humans at every step. The combination is what made it possible." It immediately got me thinking "this should be a company". Also, Paul is an extraordinary guy. This should be easy to do, but it is not yet.

Too many people are over-complicating AI, the most useful use cases are the simplest ones. I am consulting for a start-up and needed to prepare an invoice to send them, rather than spend 1 hour confirming every meeting and exchange, I had Claude Cowork review the log of our meetings, check it against my contract, then prepare an editable invoice. I walked away to finish dinner, 10 minutes later my invoice was done, meeting dates and durations perfectly documented, rate perfectly accounted for, and invoice details, down to everyone's names and addresses filled out. Meanwhile, in my 9-5 at a Fortune 500 company, I need to get 3 levels of approvals to get access to anything other than Copilot. This is why I think it's really small businesses that are best set up for amplifying the potential of AI

I got an email yesterday from my Alma Mater advertising a Master's program in applied AI. I would never sign up for a Master's in AI, literally every day something new is released, the capabilities are growing so quickly it's hard to keep up, there is no way a traditional university can do better than independent learning from content creators.
