@weydareddington “Sudanese I love” more like I don’t stand for horrible comments made on any groups of people - where did I defend the comment made on ICE. If you don’t understand my tweet, please don’t reply with ignorance

talking about making light of the ICE situation but a couple days ago you were mocking the literal GENOCIDE in Sudan?? You can’t stand on a moral high ground when you’re making egregious comments too - im not defending the OG comment because it was horrible but so are yours!

@velleaa why should we care if somali women are involved if they’re choosing to work with someone like this? how does their ethnicity give them a pass especially considering the show’s creator’s friends are on here calling somalis who post about this slurs….why should we tolerate that?

@velleaa i don’t care about being better than them? make racist comments about somalis and people will respond with comments about your people. why would i ever be considerate towards racists? why are we accepted to be passive and forgiving towards those who hate us and mock our dead?

@utumaheelada this is where I’ll always disagree, you’re no better than them by making those comments. It’s not being ‘passive’, it’s being considerate - I know people who’s families are impacted by the war in Sudan so no matter what a troll says online, I wouldn’t make that comment period

@velleaa not all somalis are passive like you. why should i not respond to people who have no issue mocking the civil war & the countless deaths and displaced people? i can justify it because they chose to make racist comments about somalis first. be racist to us & i’ll respond w/ racism

@utumaheelada Idk about you, but I’d never respond to a racist comment with mockery of an entire peoples genocide? That’s crossing a moral line and I’d block them instead because they’re not worth the argument. You can’t justify the comment you made it’s horribly insensitive

@velleaa 1. i’m not begging ppl to stream my show 2. why are you ignoring the fact that i was responding to a racist sudani who mocked literal ATROCITIES happening to somalis? do you want me to apologize for responding to racism with racism? i know you’d prefer that we just accept it 😹

@utumaheelada Michaela Coel’s comments are not well-known you can’t say for certain that they knew when signing for this show. Don’t assume, because im pretty online and wallahi I didn’t know anything about her comments on somali people. Focus the hate on her, not the young women in the show!

@velleaa “hating” do you mean calling out racism? “nitpicking” do you mean discussing racism? we don’t owe people like this support. you sound pathetic begging for crumbs

Truth is you guys have been hating since before that tweet was made. It’s sad to see something as big as the BBC screening a somali show turn into twitter discourse when really we should be supportive instead of nitpicking - this isn’t the kind of opportunity that’d happen again
?@utumaheelada

@velleaa a somali TV show made by reputable people will be picked up by a reputable network. we don’t have to support people like this and are allowed to be offended by their comments x.com/faeri3i/status…

@faeri3i From my knowledge the girl in the post isn’t apart of the Proper Ladies show on BBC? I think she may have been part of the play it’s based off of called Dugsi Dayz - that’s an extremely insensitive comment and not reflective of the people involved in the TV show

@utumaheelada where’s this? I’ve not seen anything about that - im talking about how boycotting the show won’t impact michaela coel in the slightest but rather ensure that no somali TV show will be picked up by a reputable network

Let’s be real, not tuning into this show will only harm the somali people involved in this show. Michaela Coel will stay employed and not be affected by this boycott so it’s not worth ruining this for our people
