@RockerStroker This drm bs about playstation pops up every few months, usually after some major thing at Xbox then people go crazy with it and get quiet once it is shown they are wrong. None of the spreaders retract anything after the drm stuff gets debunked.

So ResetEra user Andshrew and now also confirmed by DoesItPlay, appear to have figured out what's going on with #PlayStation's DRM. The good news is it's only a temporary DRM, not permanent. Here's how it works. When you buy a digital game, you are issued a temporary 30 day license for offline play. This license automatically transitions to a permanent license that will be free from future online check-ins, any time you connect after the 15th day of ownership, just after the 14 day refund window. But you have to log in or be connected to the internet for it to switch. You will not lose the license to the game if don't connect within or after the 30 day temporary license window, but you will be unable to play the game after 30 days, till you do, after which it'll turn into an indefinite DRM free license. Previously you'd be given an indefinite offline play license from the get go. So why did they implement this? It's possible people found an exploit where they could grab the indefinite license file for a game using an exploitable console, and then refund the purchase so they got the game for free. Hence Sony's current method of mitigating said issue is by time limiting the initial license issued. By issuing a temporary licence during the refund window, users can no longer pirate a permanent license and simply refund the game. As long as you log in any time a day after the 14 day refund window of any digital game purchase, it will turn into a permanent DRM free digital licence. @HakataQueen The expo lottery system was stupid. Using a lottery to see the exhibits was a stupid idea and caused a lot of people to miss out if they didn't buy the annual pass or had unlimited free time. For certain things a lottery system is ok, but for other things it isn't.

@filmotec I get paper bags from Amazon in Japan pretty often. I haven't seen any Amazon boxes that say "Oh! You've bought something nice again" in Japan. Shipping varies depending on the sender and if you have prime or not. I have had package arrive in 3-4 days in the US and Japan.

Xbox just reversed the entire thesis that justified a $68.7B acquisition.

Asha Sharma spent her second month as Xbox CEO retiring "Microsoft Gaming" (the 2022 rebrand built around the Activision deal), pulling Call of Duty off Game Pass Ultimate day one, and telling employees the new North Star is daily active players. Hardware sales are no longer the primary KPI.
Measuring DAU instead of consoles moved is how you tell the team you have already conceded the console war.
Run the Activision math. Microsoft paid $68.7B for Activision, closed October 2023, on the pitch that Call of Duty + Candy Crush + Blizzard would turn Game Pass into the Netflix of games. Four years of "This is an Xbox" and "Everything is an Xbox" marketing followed. First-party titles like Starfield, Sea of Thieves, and Hi-Fi Rush shipped to PS5. Hardware revenue kept falling anyway.
Now CoD is off Ultimate day-one. Game Pass Ultimate dropped from $29.99 to $22.99. PC Game Pass from $16.49 to $13.99. Those are the prices you put out when retention is cracking.
The green glass logo is the tell. Neon on black is a 2001 OG Xbox cue. The whole visual system walks backwards from the platform-agnostic era to when Xbox was a physical box and the games only played on it. Sharma said the team will "reevaluate [its] approach to exclusivity, windowing, and AI."
Translation: the Phil Spencer Xbox is done. Exclusives are coming back. Project Helix launches as a hardware-first console.
A rebrand this aggressive two months into a new CEO's tenure is the public unwind of the most expensive strategic bet in gaming history.
