Last week we had a great time visiting @GEO3BCN_CSIC in Barcelona and carried out some tephra sampling. 🥼🌋We also took a trip to see some of the volcanic cones of La Garrotxa.

@claire_horwell We often find eruption deposits at distal sites that are not preserved near the volcano. The eruption deposit they found occurred during a cold period, the Late Antique Little Ice Age, and I don’t think they implied it caused it.

UK volcanologists: did you watch the 1st episode of #DiggingForBritain yet? Did you buy the volcanic ash story? Finding it hard to see how a previously unknown ash eruption of Askja would have been big enough to cause climate cooling in the UK, and only recognised at one site.
