@nickdijkstra @smonicats Example concerns an extremely racially charged question, when asked of a citizen who has different facial features from what you imagine as "the native" of that country. Like anyone looking Arabic but born in Berlin or Paris - and it is why people are stressed about answering it.

@smonicats @viivanova Isn’t that also because there’s two kind of answers to that question? I was born in NL, but I live in Berlin. I will not answer that I’m from here (I just live here), but I meet many people who do. Then there’s the whole identity thing.

@smonicats what is interesting is that kind of question never bothered me or friends in USA, because over there a loot of people come from somewhere else and have double nationalities. Here it feels probing, as if people are digging some extra to place you in a box they are comfortable with
