Though I'm on a general hiatus from basically everything, I (like other freelancers) made it clear that I had no interest in continuing to write for AVC w/o the departing staff. Here's to brighter futures for all.

Today is @AADowd's last day at @theavclub. A tireless editor and captain, mensch, buddy, traveling companion, and, above all, a writer & critic who cares about the craft and the reader. Alex made the film section into something truly special that I'm proud to have been a part of.

Publicly and officially, my last day at The A.V. Club will be March 2nd. I have a lot of emotions about leaving what’s been a fantastic experience and a dream job, but looking back at the last seven years, what I feel the most is gratitude.

The first workers expected to move were told they had until Jan. 15 to decide. None of the seven A.V. Club employees have yet told G/O management their decision. But for some reason, G/O listed three of those positions on its job site last night… boards.greenhouse.io/gomedia 2/X

This is the big money. The NASA moon lander contract ($2.9 billion) was the one that got media attention. But SpaceX's most recent national security contract (using Falcon 9s to launch intelligence sats) was worth more, somewhere around $4.2 billion.

Everyone's dunked on this because of the billions in gov't subsidies. But it's worth mentioning that the space business is the Pentagon and the NRO, and that military & intelligence is the customer base SpaceX has been after the whole time. twitter.com/scrowder/statu…
