WE 💛 OUR INTERNS The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) recently honored 161 employers, including WHRO Public Media, as the 2026 Top Virginia Employers for Interns, recognizing their efforts to establish high-impact, career-launching internships across the Commonwealth. The annual award celebrates Virginia employers who provide hands-on experiences, direct access to senior leadership, structured mentorship and industry certifications that equip students with real-world, in-demand skills.

You may have recently seen news coverage about a court ruling related to federal funding for public media. We want to take a moment to clarify what this decision means for WHRO—and what it does not. A federal judge ruled that a 2025 executive order to defund NPR and PBS violated First Amendment protections. This is a meaningful win for free speech and an independent press. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARRY 🥳 Dr. Barry Graham has been apart of the WHRO Public Media fam for decades, starting as an overnight announcer through grad school, then coming back full-time after retiring from teaching in 2016. You can hear his voice all over WHRV, including his weekly shows "Pickin'" and "Acoustic Highway," and many of our WHRO Tiny Desk Concerts 🎶 In 2001, Barry earned his Ph.D in Urban Studies by writing a history of WHRO and analyzing its impact upon local education, policy and cultural arts organizations. So you can say his passion for WHRO runs just as deep as our love does for him ❤️ Hope you have a great day, Barry! Wish him well in the comments ⬇️
