Between my art, band and my wife's performances, I am lucky to spend a pleasant slice of the summer immersed in festivals. They present these self-contained worlds with their own micro- communities and a sense of being transported some where else. It seemed time I painted them.

I have painted a number of portraits of the Princess of Eboli, who is thought to have lost her eye in a fencing accident.  These luminous reinterpretations of historical portraits, are intended to help draw out the #otherness of historical European court paintings.

3 circular canvases. I get asked a lot why I paint so many figures suspended in the air... I always have done. I like the sense of movement, escape & #transcendence. It seems a natural pairing to embue the characters in these fleeting moments with an air of #theatricality.
