@willflanders12 @tyson_ellis13 100%. The ‘why’ has never been more clear in our program. It creates drive to get better at what we are looking for (resulting in a better chance at getting innings) Each guy gets objective information on what they can do with each pitch, regardless of how they feel about it.

For whoever needs to hear it: Saying “throw a fastball down the middle” and being content with it landing anywhere in the strike zone, is not a “command focus” bullpen. - Average (at best) JUCO pitching coach

@willflanders12 @tyson_ellis13 We have to input the player’s name before each bullpen, download pdf, then refresh the page and input the next name. So it’s not individualized automatically, there’s a small amount of work that goes into it. We use individual reports on google drive to share info

@willflanders12 @blakepete27 Not typically no. If I were I would do it based on number of guys that hit the mark vs an overall mark. So if our goal in the pen is 65% execution (usually the number). For staff wide I would say, 8/12 guys hit the number. Not adding up the total number of executions/pitches.

@blakepete27 @willflanders12 Whenever we do have our execution pen days I manually track what I perceive as executed. It’s very dependent on individual pitcher. For example: FB away, if I have a sinker guy who misses down, I may count it, but not a ride guy that misses down and vice versa.

@blakepete27 @tyson_ellis13 I think this is great. Anything you can do to plot and then track this should help enhance the process. Using their tool are you able to track multiple sessions or is it a single session app?

@tyson_ellis13 @willflanders12 We use driveline intended zones. Not perfect, but it’s a pretty good gauge on how well a guy can command the ball by each pitch type. We look at the avg. MLB miss distance for reference, which is right around 12 inches last time I checked. Would like to hear more ideas on this.

@tyson_ellis13 That’s understandable. Definitely depends upon available tech. I believe you could use the Yakkertech and plot intended location for each pitch paired with the actual location from the CSV and use x/y values to measure average distances from intended location.

@willflanders12 I think that’d be near impossible to accurately measure so I’m not sure what the answer to that would be. Would probably throw it back old school and ask the catcher, “on a scale of 1-10, how much would you enjoy for us to throw you that pitch?” And go from there.

You should only read so much CLA. The rest should be learned by actually doing it. Rich in theory is a great way to write a textbook. Rich in application is called coaching. Know enough to get started. Learn the rest as you go.
