Guernsey got their home advantage in the end, but let’s not pretend this has been handled fairly from start to finish. Peacehaven were offered split flights from different airports at different times, expected to work around jobs and commitments, and then criticised for not accepting completely unrealistic travel plans for a non-league side. Suggestions of charter flights were thrown around publicly despite never actually materialising, while Guernsey kept hold of their Muratti fixture instead of moving it, meaning they stay match sharp while Peacehaven head into the biggest game of the season after weeks without football and likely missing players due to work and holidays.
What’s made it even worse is the abuse aimed at Peacehaven officials, especially the disgusting personal comments towards the Chairlady. Nobody at the club wanted this situation, but somehow Peacehaven have been painted as the problem for simply trying to avoid a logistical nightmare. Home advantage is one thing - gaining it after weeks of delays, confusion and one team being left at a clear disadvantage is another.
