₹8,000 Crore is sufficient to fully modernize the core infrastructure of any Indian town with a population exceeding 100,000.** This would include underground power lines, sewerage systems, optical fibre networks, and water supply infrastructure, along with well-planned roads, footpaths, and green spaces. The total cost for such comprehensive upgrades could reasonably amount to around **₹8,000 crore per town**. India has approximately **8,000 towns** in total (as per the 2011 Census), the vast majority of which are far smaller. Only around **600 towns** have a population greater than 100,000. To modernize and build modern infrastructure across the country irrespective of state boundaries or the political party in power India would therefore need to invest anywhere between **₹50 lakh crore and ₹75 lakh crore** overall. That equates to roughly **$500 billion to $1 trillion** in total investment. Why isn’t a nation of 1.5 billion people prioritizing and aggressively pursuing this scale of investment? It’s time for Indians to think seriously about this.
