I was flying Southwest from Dallas to New York. Three rows ahead of me, there was a young soldier in uniform. He looked barely 18. He was staring straight ahead, gripping the armrests. He looked nervous. When the drink cart came around, the flight attendant asked him what he wanted. 'Coke, please,' he said. 'Heading home?' she asked kindly. 'No, ma'am,' he said. 'Deploying. First time.' The whole row went quiet. The flight attendant didn't say a word. she handed him his Coke. Then, she got on the PA system. 'Ladies and gentlemen, we have a very special guest in Row 8 today. Private Miller is on his first deployment to serve our country. Since I can't buy him a drink, I’m going to ask a favor. If you want to write him a note of encouragement, pass it forward.' I grabbed a napkin. I wrote: 'You got this. Stay safe. - A dad from Row 12.' I watched as napkins traveled up the aisle. Napkins, receipts, pages torn from books. By the time we landed, the soldier had a pile of paper on his tray table three inches high. He stood up to get his bag, and he was wiping his eyes. He carefully packed every single scrap of paper into his rucksack. 'Thank you,' he told the flight attendant. 'No,' she said. 'Thank you.' We all walked off that plane a little quieter, reminded that freedom is just a word until you meet the kid who is defending it.

We are living in a time of exponential change, and the best way to navigate that is to nurture our resilience. Resilience isn’t something we’re either born with or not — it’s a skill we can learn.
I talked about this on #ThePowerofKnowing, a thought leadership series hosted by Lidia Fonseca, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at @pfizer, where we discussed how AI is reshaping how we live and work, and how we can help employees build their resilience and thrive through a time defined by constant change.

Bryant University continues to rise!
Bryant is again being recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s annual “2026 Best Colleges” list, where Bryant broke into the top five best Universities in the North region, while being named the 16th Most Innovative School and the 11th best Undergraduate Teaching Program in the region, tied in that category with Bentley University.
“Bryant’s rising rankings and recognitions, including being named among the Most Innovative Schools, reflects our faculty and staff’s focus on students and their ability to adopt curriculum and our academic programs with changes in technology, areas of economic opportunity and societal needs. It also recognizes our students’ drive, accomplishments, and the distinctive education they receive here,” says Bryant University President Ross Gittell, Ph.D.

Introducing the Navigant Credit Union Field House: an extraordinary addition to the campus footprint and a true game-changer for Bryant University.
Today, Bryant celebrated the opening of the 43,000-square-foot field house that will be home to several university sports in addition to the Black & Gold Club Lounge and increased seating to create a more vibrant and connected atmosphere. President Ross Gittell, Ph.D., reflected on the pride and tenacity that being a Bulldog in athletics brings. "When athletes wear black and gold, they represent Bryant and the values that our community holds close: hard work, grit, and excellence in all that we do."

There are many reasons why these are particularly challenging times. But there’s a missing thread in our conversation about mental health: our spiritual nature.
As Teilhard de Chardin once said, “We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” But when we deny the spiritual element of our nature, we lose a supportive framework which can help us handle the anxieties of this historic moment of disruption.
People have had valid reasons for leaving organized religion, but when we reject our innate predisposition for spirituality along with that, we deny ourselves the full, expansive possibilities of our humanity—as well as the tools to navigate the labyrinths of our lives.
I write about this, and more, in my latest newsletter out now. ⬇️ bit.ly/42h1FqT
