The full Letter from Alice Oseman About the End of Heartstopper: Dear Heartstopper readers, The first Heartstopper webcomic update was published on September 1, 2016. Today, on April 11, 2026, the story has come to an end. I don't know exactly how to put all my feelings into a single letter. Heartstopper means more to me than words can express, but I'll do my best. Heartstopper has defined the last decade of my life. It started as a fun side project and quickly grew, becoming something much bigger, until it eventually became my career. Despite that huge and unexpected shift, making the Heartstopper comic still feels the same to me as it did on the first day. When I sit down to work on it, I feel peace. When the world feels scary and hard, I've always been able to return to Heartstopper, and everything feels okay again for a moment. Nick and Charlie first appeared as secondary characters in my first novel, Solitaire. In Solitaire, Nick and Charlie represent the idea that hope, love, joy, and connection can persist and flourish despite life's trials and difficulties. It might be ironic that Nick and Charlie have come to represent that in my own life. They brought me joy. They gave me purpose. They gave me everything, really. And I'm so grateful for every moment I've spent with them. Heartstopper is deeply special to me. What makes it extremely hard to say goodbye. But it's time. I always knew that the moment Nick went to university would be the story's endpoint. And while I'm sad to say goodbye to these characters, I'm so, so proud and happy to have reached the end and completed the story exactly the way I wanted. Any webcomic creator can tell you that making a webcomic takes a huge amount of determination and endurance. Drawing a page almost every day for the last ten years required many sacrifices and a lot of energy. But every moment was worth it. And now that it's complete, Nick and Charlie's story can be experienced from beginning to end, forever. I wouldn't have made it this far alone. From the beginning, Heartstopper readers have offered so much support, love, sense of community, conversations, and enthusiasm. Knowing there are people out there who love these characters as much as I do gave me the strength to keep going. I've also had the support of many colleagues, friends, and family members, who helped in different ways over this decade. Thank you so, so much to everyone who's been part of this journey. I have no idea what I'll create next. For now, I'm going to take a break. And I know Nick and Charlie won't just disappear. I believe I'll always return to drawing them and writing about them, probably in smaller ways, for the rest of my life, as long as my body allows. Nick and Charlie will be in my heart forever, hand in hand on some beach. Thank you to everyone. With so much love, Alice x
