The sanctions on Iran are so effective that we must lift the sanctions to harm Iran Then we will steal the unsanctioned oil from China
Rapid Response 47@RapidResponse47

.@SecScottBessent: In the coming days, we may unsanction the Iranian oil that's on the water. It's about 140 million barrels, so depending how you count it, that's 10 days to 2 weeks of supply, that the Iranians had been pushing out, that would have all gone to China. In essence, we'd be using the Iranian barrels against the Iranians to keep the price down for the next 10 or 14 days, as we continue this campaign. So, we have lots of levers.

@MaxBlumenthal “Sanctions are so effective we have to lift them to make them work” — logic really took a vacation here 😭 Serious question though — is this strategy… or just policy doing mental gymnastics in real time? 🤔

@MaxBlumenthal Considering Iran sells about 80% of its energy to China. I.E. they have already created the personal connections, trust and experience in selling oil to China are suddenly going to find other markets in a short period of time?

What I find unbearable about Bessent is this narcissistically imperial swagger. WE, the US, graciously permit the world either to get their oil, or to decide who is allowed to supply it, and just how and when it suits us. Because WE are the Empire. And, oh, btw, you figure out yourselves how to re-open the Strait of Hormuz, it's not like WE attacked Iran. Because WE are – after having sanctioned half the world – the biggest oil exporters, since we forbade the Europeans (and the ROW) from buying gas and oil from Russia. And to make sure they really got the message, we thermonuclearly nuked the NordStream pipeline away – something a bit heftier, 1 to 4 kt, hydrogen bombs, because why not. And while we were at it, a short time later we also thermonuclearly nuked the Russian base in Tartus, Syria – a little sub-kiloton thing – another war crime, but who's keeping score? – just so the Russians would get it for sure. And, well, we'd already had some practice by then: the multiple attacks on the Ukrainians' Zaporizhzhia NPP. So when we recently took a little bomb to the Bushehr NPP in Iran, it wasn't exactly our first rodeo. Premeditated attacks on energy infrastructure, nuclear power plants on top of it all, another war crime, but at this point it's practically a collection. Because WE, together with Israel, are the greatest and only democratic nations on Earth, and the whole world must bow before us and eat dust. Thermonuclear dust. x.com/Ben68638515/st…

@MaxBlumenthal 140 million barrels of 🇮🇷 oil, destined for🇨🇳, now being 'unsanctioned' so 🇺🇸can sell it. Translation: sanctions were never about stopping 🇮🇷 oil, they were about controlling who profits from it. And 🇺🇸 just decided that should be Washington.

@MaxBlumenthal US never benefitted from those sanctions. Europe did. Now US is helping Iran collect 100% of oil proce instead of 60%. Maybe US did strike a deal with Iran after all.

@MaxBlumenthal So isn’t this admitting that the sanctions we had on Iran hurt US even before this war?

@MaxBlumenthal @cooljamm55 I’m interested to know where they’re getting their figures… The world uses around 100,000,000 barrels a day in oil. The US uses 20,000,000++ barrels a day. He’s talking about 140,000,000 like it’s a significant amount. It’s literally a weeks worth of energy.

@MaxBlumenthal These are the most unserious people in the history of presidential administrations. And the rot is at the top for sure. Just pray that impeachment happens soon. In a functional country the orange clown never would’ve been elected in the first place.
