I'm happy to announce this new paper — we compile evidence on the extraordinary harms caused by IMF and World Bank structural adjustment programmes in the global South since the 1980s. The empirical record is devastating: documented negative impacts on wages, poverty, inequality, maternal mortality, infant mortality, healthcare access, etc. SAPs inflicted misery on the periphery in order to curtail their consumption, scupper independent development, and make labour and resources more cheaply available for the core. gh.bmj.com/content/11/Sup…

⚕️🇨🇺 @nytimes "Cuban Patients Are Dying Because of U.S. Blockade, Doctors Say. In interviews, six Cuban doctors said that rapidly deteriorating conditions at hospitals and clinics across Cuba were causing deaths that would otherwise be preventable. The blockade’s effects are cascading through the system. Hospitals are canceling surgeries and sending patients home because doctors and nurses can’t commute to work. Clinics are struggling to administer treatments like chemotherapy and dialysis because of power outages. Production of medicine has been mostly halted because factories run on diesel. Vaccine makers are searching for ingredients because flights that once carried them are canceled because of a lack of jet fuel."

A recent #US poll revealed that 61 per cent of the citizens of that country are opposed to a military attack by their government against #Cuba, as compared to only 13 per cent who support that belligerent action. The US government should heed and attend to the demands of the majority of its population and voters, as they committed to do when they were elected. The US people is sick and tired of decades of unjust wars, aggressions and military operations in which their taxes are funding ever higher military budgets, while the public funds necessary to ensure people's well-being are being proportionately reduced.

#CARICOM TO SEND HUMANITARIAN SUPPLIES TO CUBA 🇨🇺 #CARICOM governments are preparing to dispatch humanitarian aid to Cuba, following a decision announced by CARICOM Chairman, the Honourable Dr Terrance Drew at the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government held in St Kitts and Nevis on 24 – 27 February 2026. The humanitarian effort is being coordinated by the CARICOM Secretariat, headquartered in Georgetown, Guyana🇬🇾. Items such as powdered milk, including baby formula; non-perishables such as beans, wheat flour, rice, and canned goods; basic medical supplies, solar panels, batteries, and water tanks, will be purchased on behalf of Member States and shipped to Cuba. CARICOM’s initiative is supported by the Government of Mexico 🇲🇽, which has identified suppliers in Mexico able to deliver the items to the port of departure, and which will provide free shipment from Mexico to Cuba.
