S&P 500 annual return in the 90s was wild: 1991 +26.3% 1992 +4.5% 1993 +7.1% 1994 –1.5% 1995 +34.1% 1996 +20.3% 1997 +31.0% 1998 +26.7% 1999 +19.5% 8 out of 9 years up. 5 years straight of 20-30%. Can AI do something similar?

If you had to give a pokemon newbie an advice, what would be the best vintage card or top 3 to buy right now to have a steady price appreciation (not looking for a 10x in one year, more like steady 10-30% which compound over the years). Saw a lot of smart people investing into Pokémon cards so I wanted to give it a shot.

How I view the Pokemon market currently: Dumb money is fomoing into high supply modern cards (a lot of crypto bros), alongside paying ridiculous premiums for PSA 10s of these cards. The insane premium on PSA 10 modern cards won't last. The supply is absurdly high. These are not scarce assets and there will almost certainly be a crash, as people are forced to sell their cardboard due to bad economic conditions. Unemployed scalpers will be forced to undercut each other some time later this year. The market will be flooded with modern as the business cycle turns. Yes, Pokemon will not defy the business cycle. The majority of modern graded cards will never return to their highs and will be largely forgotten about over time, as people chase new sets. People will still continue to buy modern sets because the content machine/hype around trying to pull the SAR is very powerful. Rip modern packs for fun to pull the cards you like, or buy the raw cards when they are much lower in price. Vintage is different. Many of them are actually scarce (low pop), very sought after assets by real diamond hand collectors. There is no more supply to hit the market or be graded. Vintage will have a correction, but there will be far more demand to buy at lower prices, whereas the floor for modern is mostly 80-90% lower and will stay there. There will be a few anomalies, and a few modern cards that become grails, which will sustain enough demand to see a price rise eventually. Couple of beauties from my PC below that will stand the test of time (personal preference is Japanese vintage).

The Pokémon card market will inevitably crash. I don’t know how or why, but likely within a year after the 30th anniversary. This would follow historical trends. With liquidation at its easiest, there will be far less true collectors. People talk about this event now, but will they be around to talk about it when it actually happens? It is inevitable.

Whats the age when you just give up? I’m 58 this year and don’t feel like giving up yet. I still wear the vans and listen to punk and metal and enjoy a drink. Don’t think I’m embarrassing myself to be honest.

S&P 500 has made a lower low on the weekly timeframe. IMO, SPX could dump another 10%-15% before bottom.

It’s debated whether the green Charizard was before the red. Sometimes when there’s a debate it’s just easier to settle it by getting both. Special thanks to @Beezie for sticking the red one in the gold claw machine for me to win. $250<$5000 These are the OG OG Charizards in case you were wondering. 1996

@bigdogbrothers Then see the list of cards for part 1 and 2. It’s the pokemon that were different. Also notice the CGC Mr Mime is green but labelled part 2

@bigdogbrothers Bulbapedia had two theories but this one has been disproved. Boxes were green and red - that’s where the confusion comes from. Notice the Pikachu on the green box (part 1) has both colours

Respectfully, this isn’t quite right. The first Charizard card ever printed was the 1996 Bandai Carddass Green #006 — a vending machine card released before the Pokémon TCG even existed. The No Rarity is the first playable Charizard, but Carddass holds the true ‘first’ title. This is the true grail of grails.👑

This is the Charizard rookie card. Not the 1st edition English Charizard from 1999 which just sold for $950k in PSA 10. The 1996 Japanese Charizard (No rarity) is the first Charizard card ever printed.

Pokemon collectibles alpha that very few people know about: The first ever official collectible Pokemon cards are the 1996 Bandai Carddass Part 1 Green Pokemon cards, which were released in Japan in September 1996. This was a month BEFORE the Japanese base set TCG cards were released in October 1996 (the “no rarity symbol” prints). The official naming is “Carddass 100 Pocket Monster Green Part 1.” There were multiple “Parts” of the Carddass cards, some which were released after the October 1996 TCG so you want to stick only with “Part 1” Carddass cards. I would avoid “Part 2” (which is commonly referred to as “Red Part 2”) because there is some confusion as to whether Part 2 was released before or after the TCG in October 1996. This is why I only buy the Green Part 1 to avoid any possible confusion over the timeline regarding Red Part 2. See the green coloring in the bottom portion of the Charizard card (included below) where “MONSTERS COLLECTION” is printed. That is what the Green Part 1 card should look like, and is the FIRST EVER OFFICIAL CHARIZARD COLLECTIBLE CARD RELEASED. Card No. 6 with a holo foil. My understanding is that most Pokemon experts have concluded that the Carddass cards that have the bottom in red were included in Part 2, not Part 1, even though there are a few outliers who believe some of the red bottom cards were included in Part 1. Again, I would avoid any possible confusion with the timeline by sticking with green bottom Part 1 cards only. Also, note that some of the Carddass Pokemon cards with green bottoms were not included with Part 1, such as Mewtwo I believe, so if you are considering buying other green bottom cards you should review reliable online guides that organize the Bandai Carddass Pokemon cards by the different Parts so you know which green bottom cards were included in Part 1. The 1996 Bandai Carddass Part 1 Green Pokemon cards were released before the Topsun (Top Seika) gum cards, even though there is a “1995” copyright printed on the Topsun cards. That copyright reflects the Pokemon property itself, not the Topsun trading cards that were released in 1997. There are very few listings of the Charizard Green Part 1 on eBay or other marketplaces. And very few people who already knew this timeline and what it could mean for the Part 1 cards once more people realize this alpha. Feel free to share this post with other collectors and Pokemon fans, I don’t gate-keep. (*While I have your attention, check out and follow the collectibles marketplace @slabcash which I have partnered with as an ambassador. Lots of great new initiatives coming soon that I will discuss in future posts.)

@rarefinds @holygraileth Part 1 box was green which is where the confusion comes from. Cards inside were red and green. Part 1 had half the Pokémon, part 2 had the other half.
