Terrible news. My take as an outsider, an Unreal user, FortNite founder, and admirer of Epic since the 90s... A lot of FortNite money has been thrown around and as an observer, it's hard to see much of it paying off... yet. The massive lawsuits, EGS, Verse, splitting Engine development between UEFN/UE... some of this may reap rewards in the coming years, but clearly tons of money thrown around without instant returns. I have faith Tim can steady the ship. It sucks to see my feed full of layoffs. Good luck friends.

Fun fact: 75% of indies on Steam only release one game. Which is interesting... because once you ship your first game, youve already done the hardest part. The pipelines exist, connections are made, lessons are learned. A second project in theory, should be easier to produce.

Steamdeck update: finished base game of Elden Ring. First souls game I've played. What most impressed me is the level design. Loving the larger boss encounters, like the dragons and the fire giant. 🔥 Taking a break and not doing the DLC/expansion right now...

Here is a view of the 1:1 improvements of moving heavy loops from blueprints (lots of small lines) to C++ in UE5 I am not even done! Yellow and Blue calls have been converted, Green and Red are next, then we can cleanup logic in C++, maybe even tap some multi thread... but, 1MS👍

Gaming update: I recently finished Firewatch, Gris, and Omno on Steamdeck, this was after beating Simon in Expedition 33. All great games and all ran great on the deck.
