PTI appears increasingly divided over the formation and timing of the proposed “Imran Khan Release Force,” with several senior leaders questioning the need for fresh registrations when the party already has an extensive organisational structure. While CM KP Sohail Afridi and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja advocate launching a post-Eid registration drive, critics within the party see it as a delay tactic, arguing that immediate protests would be more effective for securing the release of Imran Khan. The disagreement reflects a deeper structural fault line. Traditionally, PTI has relied heavily on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to spearhead movements, while leaders from Punjab and Sindh often cite political repression—particularly under the provincial government led by Maryam Nawaz—as a barrier to mobilisation. However, KP leadership has cautioned that no movement can succeed through KP alone. Party insiders stress that meaningful pressure can only be generated if Punjab, the country’s largest province, steps forward and plays a leading role.
