Exactly 22 years ago today the voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide, Chris Stewart, made his debut first as the voice of @AlabamaMBB inside New York Cityโs historic Madison Square Garden. Coming off a SEC championship season, No. 8 Alabama faced No. 3 Oklahoma in a Top 10 matchup on Nov. 14, 2002, and for @CStewartSports the trip to New York City brought his career full circle as someone who grew up listening to the voice of legendary Alabama broadcaster John Forney. Stewartโs adventures in broadcasting started with humble beginnings as a student at the University of Montevallo to stints with the Alabama Cable Network and Birmingham Southern basketball. When the opportunity arrived to be the basketball play-by-play announcer with @UA_CTSN and sit in the seat once held by his childhood idol, Stewart reflected on the seminal moment in an interview on March 13, 2023, with the Shelby County Reporter. โIโm from Fairfield,โ Stewart told the newspaper. โI had never been to New York in my life. November of 2002, Iโm sitting three seats down from Dick Vitale, center court at worldโs most famous arena, and Iโm the play-by-play person for Alabama basketball. It was surreal then and itโs surreal now going into my 21st season.โ Stewart and his broadcasting partners @BryanPassink and @TomStipe_RTR have become synonymous with Alabama basketball, and one of the favorite online traditions of enthusiastic, tech-savvy fans is posting television clips of big games paired with the radio audio. The unexpected Final Four run last season rewarded the trio that have provided thousands of hours of excitement, hope and, when needed, comfort to the passionate Alabama basketball fanbase.
