Small Copper 2024 No 7, today in the Cotswolds. By orders of magnitude the poorest year I've known for this 'common' butt. Apparently, numbers have held up much better on acidic soils, where it breeds on Sheep Sorrel - only I've stayed neutral & calcareous.

Brexit & changes in visas, we've seen a v big drop in overseas students - that can make up 1/3 of a universities income.
Tuition fees frozen for years, despite inflation.
Many native plants growing in Britain today have coevolved over millions of yrs w/ a myriad of a diverse insects & all are intimately involved in each other's survival.
Why then do we not mention this every time we speak of these plants & insects except as a sort of btw?
