@dperkinsed Thanks for clarifying. I’d love to read the article but only have access to the abstract. Are you able to share it with me? I believe I’m with you on EI being used in certain circumstances such as if its new learning or the student is struggling which is consistent with the IH

@CalliCraft I was referring more to the use of explicit instruction and whether it's always best to use it. I believe EI is important and should be utilized in many cases, but there are instances when it may be more effective to employ alternative approaches. psycnet.apa.org/record/2015-57…

@dperkinsed I think one of the main differences described by these two approaches would be giving opportunity to discuss with a peer first, which could be particularly helpful for someone more anxious to speak.2/2

@dperkinsed Great point. My understanding is that cold calling has solid research support for increasing engagement, but that it works best in a safe and trusting context- reframing it as a warm call helps bring this to the forefront. 1/2
