La Niña (the cool flip-side of El Niño) is (likely) coming: cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/analy… With that will global temperatures will trend back toward the overall trend line. It's the trend line we should be worried about. The warming will continue until carbon emissions reach zero.

Incredible news from Scotland! 🌱 As part of the #RestorationForth project with @WWFscotland, partners & communities, 95 volunteers successfully planted 135,000 seagrass seeds in the Firth of Forth this month. Together we are making waves for a brighter future. 👏

@rdmorris It's NOT increasing variance in temperature. It's increased spread over time among models, which have different climate sensitivities, leading to a "fanning out" of projections as radiative forcing increases. See: twitter.com/MichaelEMann/s…
Prof Michael E. Mann@MichaelEMann

@Dag_Lindgren The increasing spread is a natural consequence of the spread in climate sensitivity among models, which leads to a fanning out w/ increasing anthropogenic forcing. See e.g. plot from my @SciAm article from some years ago: scientificamerican.com/article/earth-…

Of great interest to me is the asymmetry of the warming over past two decades, w/ long periods of moderate La Nina conditions (cooler temps) punctuated by shorter periods of strong El Nino (warmer temps). Might not be coincidental: pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…

No, @FT, it isn't. The world is warming AS FAST as we predicted--and that's bad enough. Accuracy is important! (h/t @Hausfath)

We absolutely must stop pollution at source and turn off the plastic tap. Help us call for an ambitious #PlasticsTreaty that reduces production by at least 75% by 2040. 👉 bit.ly/3LMVQIv

Folks ask "Should we be concerned about the 2023 temperature outlier?". If so, we should have been more concerned about the even larger 2016 outlier. What we SHOULD be concerned about is the steady warming, and worsening impacts, which will continue until carbon emission cease.
