The public playtest for my upcoming horror game, Flick, has finally kicked off! It's a super short demo (~10-15 minutes-ish) and is a showcase of the kind of quiet, dreadful horror that I've come to love over the course of making this. To celebrate, I made a new trailer!

the Steam Personal Calendar is for real!

Here's the logic behind this and why it's probably not a bad thing for Indies: Steam's motive is to match players with games they'd like to play / buy - including indie games. Under the old system if your game had enough wishlists, it'd get on the Popular Upcoming list for a few days which would show it to a TON of people but many of those people wouldn't even play that kind of game. Now Steam is adding the Personal Calendar with more visibility than the Popular Upcoming list. And the Personal Calendar is algorithmic so it shows your game to relevant players who might be interested. Also games stay on the Personal Calendar for longer. As far as I can tell this is a huge win for indies. It doesn't matter that the new Popular Upcoming list is going to be all huge titles, the Personal Calendar is the part of this most people are missing.

@PlasmidEX7 Thanks for playing!! Shoot - I haven't even tested it on the handheld yet. I wonder if the interact system was bugging out on there (it's pretty reliable on the mouse and keyboard). Thanks a ton for the feedback! Looks like I have some steamdeck testing to do

@ColorTheBooks It was creepy. I really liked it. My one big issue was having trouble detecting what items to pick up. Felt like the prompt was a bit inconsistent. I was playing on a handheld too so I had to find steam inputs just to make it work. Such a cool game

@ColorTheBooks Thank you we posted an apology in the steam events section as soon as we fixed the issue and we also spent a lot of time in the discussions trying to help everyone who had been affected by the bug thankfully many players came back and updated their reviews after the fix

As an indie game dev seeing your steam reviews drop to mixed is one of the scariest things that can happen We had to go through it for a few days because of a bug But watching those reviews turn positive again after we fixed the issue was such an incredible feeling ❤️
