Thirty years ago, @OSUCowboyGolf beat Tiger Woods and Stanford in the 1995 #NCAAGolf final in Columbus, Ohio. On that team was current Cowboys coach @OSUBratton and Trip Kuehne. On the night before that final match, Kuehne found a sticky note posted to his hotel room door that read, “BELIEVE IN DESTINY.” He wrote it on his golf ball that next day, and down a man after their teammate Leif Westerberg left after 72 holes to fly to the British Am, Kuehne helped the Cowboys to sudden-death playoff win. Writing the definitive gamer that evening was legendary Golfweek writer Ron Balicki, who died from cancer in 2014. And as it turned out, Balicki was the one who left the note. Bratton shared that story with this year’s team last night before their victory over Virginia on Wednesday at La Costa. It inspired Ethan Fang to write “B.I.D.” on his ball. Fang earned a point in the 4-1 triumph as OSU realized their destiny with a 12th national championship. Kuehne was in attendance to watch it. And @WrongRon was surely smiling from up above. “I thought about him a lot this week,” Bratton said of Balicki.
