Baby Sage here, two weeks old, as I sit and watch her I can’t help but think she is a little miracle baby, the baby that almost never was. 585 days ago I was sat on on a blow up bed in my grandma’s & grandads empty house (it was sold, after they died, empty of all belongings, waiting to exchange) defeated, broken, crying, I’d lost the Mrs & Kids, looking at life alone & at the same time & realising I’d completely lost control of alcohol & drugs. I’d failed at sobriety already, I hated the idea, my life was falling apart & the thought of not being able to the very thing that was destroying was hurting me as much as losing my family, insanity. Thats addiction. Like so many I grew up living for the weekend and with drink every weekend more often than not came drugs, I never thought anything of it just thought it was our generation, our culture. When my career fell apart and I lost everything the only thing I really I thought that I enjoyed was drinking, I started to do it on my own, then, the same with the drugs, till it really gripped me when my father died & it just became my way to cope with & escape life. I never thought I had a problem because I could have a few days off in between sessions, so I thought I wasn’t an addict. An addict sat on a park bench drinking vodka, my addiction told me. Now I know it’s not the frequency of your drink & drug use that makes you an addict it’s what happens when you use, & once I started I couldn’t stop till I was obliterated, I became selfish & picked it over being home & being a husband & father. My point is, if it’s habit, if it’s ingrained its self into your whole life, if you can’t just have a few, if your losing the people you love & works being effected & your mental health is in a bad way, you can change it all. You don’t have to accept your life is what it is, you don’t have to accept defeat, but you will have to accept its hard work everyday, but you can choose a better way, this baby in my arms is proof, there is two ways this can go for you & one of those ways will lead you back to happiness. #addiction #sober #sobriety #addict #MentalHealth
