My book is a guide for discipleship, learning how to follow the way of Jesus through the practices of reading scripture, knowing the doctrines of the Nicene Creed, praying the Lords Prayer and Living out the Decalogue. Due out May 12th!

Our foundational identity, the meaning of our life, and the longings of our hearts are found and experienced as apprentices of Jesus. The whole reason you were made and remade was to experience the good life in friendship with the Triune God under the apprenticeship of King Jesus

The goal of apprenticeship with King Jesus is communion with the Trinity, character formation in the Trinity, and the cultivation of our lives for the Trinity.

I’m a SBC pastor in Utah, 95% of my area identifies as Mormon. This past fall, we decided to confess the creed during liturgy, I preached through the Nicene Creed and many memorized it as our “line in the sand” We have had more baptisms and members in that time than ever before
Malcolm Yarnell@MusingsOnChrist

Until the Nicene Creed becomes a required theological confession in Southern Baptist schools, we will continue to see: 1) theologians tampering with the Trinity to meet their social agendas; 2) the Jehovahs Witnesses and Mormons viewing Southern Baptist churches as ripe fields;

@JoshuaBarzon My book due out on May 12th is a more biblical, historic, and orthodox approach. Learning to follow the way, slow down, and craft a rule through the ancient Catechesis of scripture, creed, prayer, and Decalogue! I’ll send you a copy if you want

@Dustincc89 @Protestia I’m an Elder in Utah in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I testify that Jesus is the son of God and the only way to salvation. The bible is the word of God and God still speaks to man today. The Holy Ghost will show the truth to all who are sincere.

'The Chosen' creator Dallas Jenkins, talking to two Mormon teachers, explains that Mormons have such a reverence and genuine respect for Christ- more than most evangelicals do-and they honor scripture and exhibit fidelity to scripture.

@suzania I use that line from the priest in Daredevil at least once a week: “Guilt is the soul’s call to action”

You can be Protestant, even a Baptist like me, and love the early church fathers! They get right the essentials and the big guns have more in common than you are led to think. Of course they didn’t agree on everything, but not even other SBC pastors agree on the most basic stuff

@Svigel Were they more “cessionist with an asterisk” or “continuationist with a seatbelt”

Theology 101: Two inconvenient historical facts: 1) the early church couldn’t be categorized as “cessationist” by today’s common definition of that term; 2) the early church couldn’t be categorized as “continuationist” by today’s common definition of that term.

@Christ_OverAll You should give us a broad Overview article before Easter in case some pastors, like me, want to add it to their Easter sermons

New month, new theme at Christ Over All. This April, we're meditating on Resurrection in the Old Testament, tracing the pattern of "third day" resurrections and the promises, types, and shadows that reveal Christ's victory over the grave.

Mormon physiognomy is a real thing. Having grown up in Utah, I can spot a Mormon at 50 yards. I did this on my honeymoon. My wife and I were holding the cruise ship elevator for a couple coming down the hallway and I told my wife "they're Mormons" and she said "how do you know," and I said "by looking at them" and she said "you can't tell if someone is Mormon just by looking at them" and I said "yes I can" and then they got in the elevator and I asked where they were from and they were from Utah and he had just finished his mission.

"Christian theology, best thought of largely as a commentary on baptism, has the happy and awesome task of trying to explain to the one baptized what baptism in the triune name means and implies." - Thomas Oden

@jt_english We must retrieve ancient catechesis: Creed, Prayer, and Decalogue—pillars built on the King’s Word—shaping what we confess and how we live. The fathers would gasp at confessing the Creed without embodying it in scriptural love.
