📍 Site Update: Thubelihle Intermediate School, Jabavu (Soweto) The A-Team conducted a site inspection on 29 April 2026, with the project now at 93% completion. While major works on the admin extension, classrooms, and ablutions are nearing completion, progress is affected by delays in site instructions, and the project exceeding its February deadline. Outstanding work includes blinds installation, flooring, and final electrical and plumbing at the science lab. A recommendation has been made for DID professionals to step in and fast-track completion. 📍 Site Update: Bafeti LSEN School, Mabopane Today the A-Team conducted a site inspection as the project nears completion, with overall progress at 75%. Interior finishes, HVAC, fire protection, and external works like walkways and landscaping are progressing well. However, challenges remain, including payment delays, housekeeping, roof truss quality concerns, electrical compliance issues, and unsafe asbestos removal. Final finishes and installations are ongoing, with completion targeted for 30 April 2026 (pending approval). 🚧 Construction Update: Barcelona Primary School in Etwatwa Construction is temporarily paused following challenges with the contractor. A new contractor is being appointed so work can resume soon. The department recently held a community meeting to provide residents with an update on the project and the way forward. This Mega Primary School (Grade R–7) will feature modern classrooms, labs, tech spaces, arts facilities, sports areas & more—built to national standards for a future-ready learning environment. Gauteng MEC for Education, @LebogangMaile1, together with GDE senior management, is currently locked in a meeting with MEC for Infrastructure Development, @JacobMamaboloSA, and the leadership of the Department of Infrastructure Development @GPDID. The purpose of the meeting is to unlock infrastructure backlogs, fasten the pace of infrastructure delivery and address overcrowding in Gauteng schools. Despite the numerous challenges, the MEC is confident that through political-will, administrative efficiency and sound governance system the challenges will be resolved. #GrowingGautengTogether

Site inspection at Laerskool Generaal Nicolaas Smit, Hercules. The A-Team visited the school to monitor progress on ongoing renovations aimed at improving the learning environment. Learners are back in completed classrooms and teaching continues. 🏫 While good progress has been made in some areas, overall progress remains slower than expected. The contractor has been instructed to increase capacity on site and enforce daily health & safety compliance. ⚠️ Outstanding work includes key installations, compliance certificates, and completion of remaining blocks and the main hall.
