Wrong. Canon is determined by the text. Canon cannot be decided by a voice of authority in a paratextual source. Why y'all are building a house on shifting sand like this is beyond me. Only the games are canon. Nothing else. If it's not in the games, it isn't canon.

I use the word "author" because "death of the author" is already a pre-existing term i think fits here perfectly.
