They literally had Katara say his chi was stronger than anyone she'd ever seen. later, it was revealed Tagah's staff was massively boosting his chi, and as we saw at the end, once you absorb it, you keep that power even after losing the staff. that's why Sonam only took the staff, trapped him in an ice sphere, and sealed him away, she wasn't strong enough to kill him because his chi was already too powerful.

@Alune55 The game benefits from oppressing ADCs though. The less powerful ADCs are, the less viable they are in their own lane, the better the game gets. The monopoly of "AD marksman" over an entire 5th of the team is a root cause of all of League's design issues actually. Not hyperbole.
