Things will be what they'll be. And when we know better, we must do better. #drugpolicy is a vital place to start "health-first approach that decriminalises use & possession, supporting those formerly marginalised by criminalisation has myriad benefits." thelancet.com/journals/lanhi…
Harm Reduction Coalition Aotearoa@HRCA_info

Do we fully appreciate the widespead harm fuelled by the Drug War? It's out of control and so damaging in so many ways. This tree should have been felled decades ago. The fear and vilification of certain psychoactive drugs is a relic from the 1900s - like so many other ignorance and prejudice from that era that led to some abhorrent laws, policies and practises towards: indigenous peoples; women; people of colour; homosexuality; suicide; disability; mental illness; and abortion. Thankfully these aws and policies on all these subjects have changed significantly since the 1900s - EXCEPT we've seen little fundamental change in drug laws, policies or practices. Here in Aotearoa NZ we are still governed by a 1975 Misuse of Drugs Act, a law informed by the 1961 UN Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs - which itself consolidated nine distinct multilateral treaties adopted between 1912 and 1953! This is a ludicrous state of affairs. It is time to stop lopping branches. This tree is rooted in the toxic soil of prejudice, vested interests, propaganda, ignorance, misinformation and misplaced fear - we need to chainsaw the whole tree down from the base. Please help us in Aotearoa. Take action now and sign the Parliamentary petition to repeal the Misuse of Drugs Act and have a new fit for purpose drug law based on Health, Harm Reduction and Human Rights. Anyone from any country can sign. See hrca.nz or go direct to: petitions.parliament.nz/0ab5ed2a-54c9-…

When the government bans something, they also ban the demand for that thing. That “thing” magically disappears and anyone previously using that “thing” stops, and does something virtuous instead. From my upcoming book “How The Government Thinks Bans Work”

Prohibition doesn’t stop drugs or crime, it CREATES crime because only criminals control the manufacturing, supply & marketplace, and it only makes drugs into the strongest and deadliest concentrations for efficiency & effects. Think Fentanyl instead of heroin. There’s no single policy change that could save more lives, more money, benefit more countries, almost immediately, than the legalization & regulation of all classes of drugs. Aren’t they dangerous? Yes, but no more dangerous than the legal drugs, and almost ALL the dangers could & would be mitigated with a regulated, legal system. Will there still be overdose deaths if we legalized drugs? Yes, just as there are still many deaths from alcohol & tobacco use. But we don’t prohibit those substances, instead we use regulation to make them as safe as possible and only available to adults, and the second key is education. The key isn’t prohibition, the main key is education. Look at tobacco, there was a time that cigarettes were promoted to such an extent that zippo lighters were standard G.I. Issue and smoking was at an almost 50% population wide usage and a societal commonplace. Now a recent high school drug survey had, as a percentage, more cannabis smokers than tobacco for the first time ever, and smoking of tobacco cigarettes has gone down every year for thirty years straight. We didn’t accomplish the downward trend by prohibiting tobacco, we did it through education and safer methods to obtain nicotine. Education and packets, snuff & vaping has cut down on smoking while still allowing nicotine. Prohibition doesn’t work, safer methods of using nicotine and education does. Prohibition doesn’t make drugs or their problems go away, it only makes everything worse. Prohibition doesn’t mean the banned substance goes away, but it does make everything more dangerous.

They think like the fantasy land idiots they are. They have programmed American sheeple into thinking the drug war has magically eliminated coke & heroin and all other drugs from streets, and most illicit fentanyl is captured in drug busts by heroes @ dea and fbi. 🐏🐏

@Greenthumb_one Its ironic to ban something for its effects on people if there is no medical use. That implies its ineffective. Than why are people buying it?

Kansas. Where corruption runs rampant & corporations ban plants to capture markets, because ideology-driven prohibition bias is favored by irrational minds. Our 'Free State' may be disguised as a police state, but the Wizard can't hide behind a curtain forever. #adastraperaspera

Arizona’s HB 2415 would effectively ban 7‑OH products based on rare overdose reports—often involving multiple substances. That could push chronic pain patients to black markets or fentanyl-laced opioids. Regulate potency & labeling, don’t prohibit painkillers, says @dr4liberty. ow.ly/gvhb50YH9hX
