“I think we’ve still got a problem …”
There’s growing uncertainty over the AFL’s review system as frustration reigned after a couple of insufficient intent and rushed behind calls last night.

@FOXFOOTY So the goal umpire adjudicated this perfectly. The fox footy commentators completely got it wrong (roo saying “I think they made the wrong call but ended up getting the right decision” and the Jack completely agreeing with him) but that has zero accountability at all.
English

@NeilMur73809257 @jkmccrann @JasonBennettTV Genuinely was asking. We call something a disposal because of the outcome (goal) but probably not a disposal if it happened on the field
English

Hasn’t taken long for ‘Last Disposal’ to morph into ‘Last Touch.’ If ball goes out after glancing bottom of player’s boot or leg, he’s not getting a Disposal for that yet gets pinged for it. If umps need to confer, fair chance that no ‘Disposal’ was involved. #AFLCrowsBlues

Let’s see muppets at AFL House sign-off on this one!

@MattyB_76 @jkmccrann @JasonBennettTV And what about if it went off your shin and dribbled over the boundary previously, was that a disposal? Asking, not knowing.
English

@Jonesracing82 Accept it’s a lasso, or whack it down the line and back in to play.
English

Not sure what he's expected to do here...

"The new rule is if you actually attempt to touch it, you've gotta try and keep the ball in." 🗣️ Luke Hodge following Nick Haynes' insufficient intent call
English

@JasonBennettTV If a ball glances off the bottom of an attacking player’s boot or leg and goes between the big sticks - is that a goal?
I think you’ll find…
English

'DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE' 😠
Nick Haynes was punished for 'insufficient intent' in this play, despite his best efforts to get control over the ball before it went over the boundary line for last disposal.

@lenphil29 Gerard was a good, at times great, host of On the Couch.
His last year to 18 months was obviously in decline.
His openers on Sportsday are getting weird.
It’s elder abuse he’s allowed to continue like this.
English

@CapitalCityCody @RyanBuckland7 G Healy’s career is bordering on elder abuse now. Either he’s being fed this stuff and going with it, or he’s coming up with it and those around him aren’t stopping it. On a nightly basis. His show openers are weird.
We’ve come a long way from the Gold Coast Cannots
English

@RyanBuckland7 Yeah it's terrible fact checking - it literally can't be possible and the trial games weekends between different clubs have significantly more kids involved.
I wonder if he called AFL NSW/ACT/AFL Sydney to confirm numbers or went on one uncited source.
English

This doesn't align with what I've been told, or the teams registered for the competition.
For example, Penrith have six teams in age groups 13 and under. Unless every kid is playing for pretty much every team, the numbers are way off.
It *might* be closer for the 13u boys comp.

@1116sen @LockedInSEN You know this is the kind of story Sammy Edmund used to tell on a pre-recorded show on the weekend, catching up with ex players.
Now TM is presenting this as… a breaking news item?

This might very well be Melbourne’s best win since the 2021 flag.
None immediately spring to mind.

@Hello__Dave Your so called ‘reasonable person’ would be wrong. Whether you care to be proven so or not.
English

Reading the replies to this has revealed to me that Southerners think what makes a tackle a "spear" tackle is the tackler. Not the person being tackled having their head 'speared' into the ground.

English

@MarkGottlieb Maybe I’m not being clear. I don’t have a strong belief of where it comes from nor do I care to be proven right or wrong. I most certainly don’t think it came from Goldberg.
Reasonable person might think that is a spear tackle. Potentially based on a youth spent watching WWE
English

@Hello__Dave The term spear tackle for spearing a guy into the ground has been around since at least the 70s and 80s. Probably much, much earlier. The fact you think it comes from a wrestler is very funny.
English

@Hello__Dave Hello Dave, when do you think the term spear tackle was invented?
