Football, Chicago and ASOIAF are my three great loves. Proud Neoliberal shill. Everything comes back to housing so let’s build more.

@mattyglesias Project 2050 shouldn’t be focused on economic policy. It should be focused on structural and constitutional reforms. The “No Kings” movement should be the beginning of Democrats commitment to destroying the imperial presidency and establishing congressional supremacy.

I think I want to agree with this, but I also wonder what a Project 2020 cooked up in 1996 would have said — wouldn't we have just ended up way off the mark because the world is unpredictable?
Bharat Ramamurti@BharatRamamurti

I have no issue with Project 2029 and similar plan-generating initiatives. But as I write today, what I think Democrats really need is a Project 2050: a concerted effort to decide what we think America should look like in 2050 if we regain political power in DC. 1/

@JHWeissmann Yes but we’re also not supporting actual center left candidates. Cuomo was a massive NIMBY and anti nuclear, Karen Bass has done all she can to slow down home construction. These should not be our candidates.

After the DSA wins New York, Seattle, DC, and (potentially) the LA mayoral races, I think the center left needs to acknowledge that its infrastructure in major American cities is broken, that we are being flatly out-organized, and settling for uninspiring candidates.

❗️ The US and G7 countries will begin producing long-range missiles and air defense systems in Ukraine The landmark agreement will allow Western weapons to be manufactured in Ukraine under license, according to Le Parisien. For Kyiv, this means not just new deliveries, but the development of a large-scale domestic defense industry based on Western technologies. Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that G7 partners will increase military and financial support for Ukraine while stepping up pressure on Moscow. According to him, for the first time since Donald Trump returned to power, the West has managed to reach a unified position on key security issues.

@ChicagoNewLibs Can we make sure the cost of living that makes this city so awesome doesn't change with an influx though?

show me the multiple studies that demonstrate that standardized tests are "better for poor and minority students."
Darrell@HenryDarrell317

@marclamonthill Yes it is, there have been multiple studies. The removal of standardized tests did nothing to increase low income or minority enrollment.

I appreciate the faith-forward side of this administration and I’m not anti-border security. But the way you talk about “illegal aliens” and push these memes lands as subliminally targeting Black and brown communities, and that’s not Christ‑like or God‑honoring to me.

@marclamonthill Standardized tests are better for minority and poor students. Subjective metrics allow bias to creep in.

I respect Messi’s greatness, but I’m fully convinced he’s going goal‑less this World Cup and Argentina are getting grouped. He holds them back. Bookmark this and come back when it happens.

In a lot of states, voters back Republicans by big margins but also support progressive policies when they're on the ballot. Oklahoma isn't one of them. Voters there only BARELY expanded Medicaid, voted No on legal pot by 2:1, and now look like they'll vote No on min wage too.

@BeshearStan The Republicans over performed in NJ and VA in 21. Dobbs is what stopped the red wave. Don’t see anything like that stopping the blue wave.

Donald Trump’s handpicked candidate Mike Collins is a notorious bigot, antisemite, and extremist currently under federal investigation for the illegal misuse of tax dollars. Collins, who is only a congressman because his daddy was a congressman, voted to double health insurance premiums for more than a million Georgians, for the Iran War, and for the Trump tariffs.

The biggest housing bill in a generation with tons of great reforms is getting so close to passage! We don’t pop champagne til the President signs it. But it’s time for housing folks to go ahead and buy the nice champagne and put it in the fridge. We’re gonna get this done.
