BREAKING - Autonomous Vehicles (self driving taxis) in DC take a huge step forward as DC Councilmember Charles Allen expected to introduce legislation today to “operationalize” AV’s in the District. Unclear when this will come up for vote. @nbcwashington

Statement from the Chicago Bears. They want more

Democrats are the pro-gerrymandering party. The Virginia map isn’t anything new. It’s exactly what they did to Illinois: Extend Chicago (Northern VA) out into wildly drawn districts for the sole purpose of electing democrats.

Mayor Brandon Johnson and Acting CTA President Nora Leerhsen on Tuesday defended their decision to replace hundreds of unarmed security guards with “trained professionals,” a move drawing fire from the chair of the City Council’s Black Caucus. chicago.suntimes.com/city-hall/2026…

It’s genuinely crazy how many people said enforcing fare collection was bad circa 2020-2023.

Hot take: Reducing transit on weekends actually reduces ridership on weekdays. Habits like consistency, and cutting weekend hours breaks transit-riding habits. This is especially true for people who work weekends and tourists, which are a growing share of riders in major cities.

The stats here are kind of remarkable. BART's new fare gates have led to a 1,000-hour decline in clean up time; 41% drop in crime; and $10 million increase in projected revenue. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/04/…

BREAKING into @fox32chicago: SEIU confirms that CTA has suddenly laid off 159 private security guards. The notices came on Friday. "We aren’t giving a comment yet, but we can confirm that 159 Local 1 members employed by Monterrey Security were laid off. These officers helped keep the Red Line, Blue Line and several garages monitories and safe." This comes as Springfield passed legislation providing $1.5 billion in new funding for public transit, including beefing up security and public safety.
