@lnopit @igor_alexandrov I'll take the chance to gain many haters but after 2 tries with Laravel (not recently thou) everything seems like the beginning of Rails. I was not feeling it was easy and efficient but limited functionalities and patterns. (Model validation comes to mind), we ditch the project.

@igor_alexandrov Did you consider to use Laravel instead of Rails? I would like to know pros and cons between them.

@nateberkopec I also add mailcatcher and adminer to the dev stack. So developers can also check the database and mail's. So I have 1. App - Rails w/ puma 2. Worker - Rails w/ job rake 3. Test - Test env and sleep infinite 4. PostgreSQL 5. Mailcatcher 6. Adminer 7. Other redis mielisearch

I've fully converted to using Docker for all the services a Rails app needs for local dev: SQL db, Redis, Memcached, etc etc. It's easy, cross-platform, allows everyone to have the same config, easy to onboard.

@RogersKonnor @joshmanders @adrianthedev I hate activeadmin, I don't like Arbre, how to customize the look (better now) and how everything is put into a single file per ressources, but That's what I used for the last 10 years in the business. Get the job done.

@AlloyLauncher @oprearocks You don't have control on everything coming your way. I can design structured information no problem. Two cases I encountered: return statuses from multiple payment gateways, and in IoT an array of sensors returning various data points in different metrics in the same message.

@HuguesLamy @oprearocks Sorry. All/Most of the data is structured. In most of the cases unstructured data means simply underdesigned data :)

NoSQL is better and more scalable than SQL. This was the pill I swallowed back in 2014 when I was working on my “degree project”. And for a while I actually peddled it myself. I was advocating for nosql left and right. I always wondered why seasoned developers scoffed at me. But then I actually took the time to learn SQL, and it all made sense. I was simply ignorant to its benefits mostly because learning another language is way more difficult than calling Model.find() from your main programming language. So… yeah… I was wrong. I’ve been a PostgreSQL fan for 6 years now and I’m not planning to switch.

the russians are bringing back the NKVD and smersh.. do your research... there was a reason why so many former soviets switched sides and joined the germans in WWII.... the NKVD and SMERSH overall were worse then the hated evil german SS... yes smersh was slightly worse than the SS. and russia is bringing them back.
