Joe Jacoby went head-to-head with the likes of Richard Dent (twice), Leonard Marshall, Reggie White, Fred Dean, Chris Doleman, Harvey Martin and Lawrence Taylor in the postseason. And managed to come away with three rings. Who else can say that?

10. Joe Jacoby, 1981—One of Bobby Beathard's best signings. The 6-7, 305-pound left tackle was essential to Washington's era of dominance when it went to four Super Bowls and won three from 1981-91. Jacoby was the King "Hog" and should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

@JohnMal12858538 He didn't start every game during the 1987 regular season. But him and Don Warren are very close to Jacoby. Art Monk is too, but he missed the 82 postseason, part of 83 and part of 87 w/ injuries).

@ChiArunavo Everything really came together that season. Jimmy Johnson coached a helluva game to beat the Skins at RFK, but otherwise the coaches pushed all the right buttons. The Super Bowl was a clinic on both sides of the ball. Hiring Jim Hanifan after Bugel left was a great decision BTW.

@ChiArunavo Richie was the man. The only offense he had trouble solving was the great 49ers teams of the late 80s -- and he was far from alone there. And you're correct, the 82 and 87 defenses in particular were not as loaded with talent as the great Bears/Giants defenses.

@Jacoby4HOF A lot of credit has to go to Richie Petibon, who maximized the talent he had. Washington might not have had the overall talent of the Bears or Giants on defense, but they were so well coached and disciplined.

@HKEY_ROOT Dan Hampton and Richard Dent. Tough for anyone to top that duo -- both are HOFers. But Mann and Manley were much better than they get credit for, and a huge key to Skins' success in the 80s.

@HKEY_ROOT I had forgotten how good Mann was until re-watching a lot of old games. Redskins pass rush in the mid-80s was so damn tough.

@ChiArunavo Mann was excellent. Like you said, he played both the run and pass well, and he had a knack for big plays. I haven't seen enough of Fred Dean to compare the two. The Skins defenses of 85-88 -- when Mann and Manley were both in peak form -- were much tougher than people remember.

@Jacoby4HOF If Fred Dean is a HOFer, Charles Mann is one. Mann was a complete player, and played run and pass, while guys like Dean and Mark Gastineau just pinned their ears back to attack the QB.

@podoffame Great player, tremendous career. But Dexter Manley had more sacks in fewer games, and more big plays in the playoffs (see 1982 NFC Championship game and 1982/87 Super Bowls). He's worthy of HOF consideration but it'll never happen.

It's very hard for o-lineman to get noticed. This knockdown block by Jacoby isn't in any highlight reels, and if you blink you'll miss it here. But he had so many of these over the course of his HOF-worthy career.
