@TheRyenRussillo @DraftKings You know how I know they’d be better? Look at our women. We DOMINATE women’s soccer and Basketball. The top two sports for women in the USA and the world. LeBron could be a goalie. We have the best athletes. We don’t have the best system.

Can we just take a minute to appreciate what SBS has done in the first few days of the World Cup… From a broadcast perspective, they’re awesome. Highlights, mini matches, extended highlights, full replays as soon as the match is done. The hosts and panelists have done a great job between matches with informative and interesting discussion, not just ragebait and headlines. And completely free. In terms of a sporting product… jeez, it puts a few other outlets on the hot seat with viewers you’d think

@davisjarrafooty It's not free though, is it. The taxpayer has paid, but given we run budget deficits it's borrowed money.

Nights like the Hall of Fame are bigger than any one person. A bit of Respect for the occasion, some respect to the dress code and respect the people who built the game. Not hard, 364 other days of the year to express yourself…
Herald Sun@theheraldsun

Footy greats have expressed their disappointment in Mitch Brown’s take on the dress code at the black tie Hall of Fame night, with Tim Watson questioning whether he should have been allowed in the room. > bit.ly/4vDm8mc

@CJW_73 @RalphyHeraldSun Da fuq does this even mean? Wanting the game/competition to improve isn’t whinging. Unless of course you think everything is perfect.

@RalphyHeraldSun we are now unfortunately a country of whingers. there is this insatiable appetite to play the victim and feel hard done by, and social media makes little people noisy. as Norm McDonald once said: "back in my day, a man had 3 opinions"

The AFL will tell clubs today that TV ratings are up 4.9 per cent, every Thursday game has exceeded 1.1m viewers, attendances are off the charts. Yet the game has never been more criticised. Are those people just louder or are they angry but still showing up and watching in increased numbers? heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/club…

@MHJeffrey027 @StevoMedia I think WA teams are fine/happy to play North Melbourne, in umm Melbourne. Not middle of nowhere places like Hobart, Alice, etc

@StevoMedia Duped by the WA teams complaining about their travel issues, if the WA teams didn't crack it there'd be no financial incentive to play them over there as the home team

@daanysaeed Yes but this isn’t the target audience of the show. It’s for footy nuffies, not the casual fan who will debate the most trivial of topics with passion. Not sure the casual punter will watch that. They did a pilot/ test of this last year and it was very enjoyable.

I got 2025 figures from the AFL earlier today. For AFLM, 45% of attendees were women, 52% men and the rest either non-binary or preferred not to say. For AFLW, it was 57% women, 40% men.
Daany Saeed@daanysaeed

@donnythetweeter @marnievinall Women make up 40-45% of the ticket holders, memberships and revenue at large in the game. Not a single one in the room. Personally if I ran a massive sporting code or media business I’d at least try to cater to 45% of my consumer base.

@Eleanor1998_ That fact you (and many of those outrage) don’t know many here probably is a sign that you might not be the intended target audience of this exercise.

Looking beyond the main issue, which is the lack of women in the room, who are most of these people? I recognise swoop. That's it really. People are stating that their large followings are the reason for them being there, but I'm finding that hard to believe.

Idk if I was going to make something called the fan footy network, I’d try and do a better job of representing the wide range of footy fans out there.

@Damian_fasciani I think it’s more because instead of celebrating a champion, it’s more about how can we maximise revenue (for all involved).

Why can’t people just be happy for Scott Pendlebury? It blows my mind. Wish the man the best. Instead people are bitter, twisted, poking at travel - it’s sad how fickle and how depressing a lot of people are. Oh well..sucks to be you lot! GO PIES! #GoPies

You could argue that Dave Mundy’s 376 games is a greater achievement than Pendles, Boomer etc because of the amount of travel he had to endure. It’s a lot easier traveling back and forth from the G to Marvel most weeks in a car than getting on a plane every fortnight.
