@smidbot @CFB_Solon @davidminpdx Cops aren't the answer for everything, but they do tend to be a good answer for crime. Not perfect, but better than most.
And remember that most big cities in the US aren't in Cali, and haven't near-legalized petty shoplifting. So I'd wager they get more petty theft reports.

1. the people MOST vulnerable to crime in places like the TL are poor + unhoused. yet SF policies have worked to criminalize their environment, with few changes to material conditions beyond "clean" streets

hung out all night in SF’s Tenderloin and shocker — i wasn’t accosted by drug dealers or criminals. just had some drinks and talked to neighbors living on the street. SF has its share of social problems, but the victimization spread by moderates in this town is unhinged
