Life in middle class America was compelling during that time because Americans were willing to live in relatively new and cheep suburban areas with relatively lax zoning, permitting and HOA regs.

It's not that hard to explain. Compare the US economy today to what we had in the 1960s. We had an affluent middle class then, when young people could afford to have cars, homes, and families. In 1961 I got my first car (1948 Chevy) for $60 I made refinishing a deck that took me two days. What happened to the USA since then? The establishment media is trying to blame it on the so-called "boomer" generation. Creating the idea of conflict between the generations is just as silly as demonizing individual politicians. But people fall for it. What happened since then is simply government corruption. The federal government exploded in size and came under the control of corporate donors. That's who your representative in Congress actually listens to. What happened since then is the so-called "Great Society" movement promoting "diversity" and globalism. Now, we have more equality because we are all poorer, except for those in government and the super-rich. We have all been played. Whites, blacks, everybody.
