But they would be better than last year with that addition. This offense likes to put a third tackle on the field at the goal line so another one is needed.

Future need id agree. Immediate need I still think EDGE is bigger. But I get the argument otherwise. They do still need a viable longterm option at tackle. I could be wrong but I don’t think the 2026 level of play between Borom and a rookie would be that much different. Not many rookie tackles play that well. Not that that should make your decision on whether to draft someone. Just to my point of I think the offense is relatively set and could gain a lot more by hitting on a first round defensive player.

Not sure this is a very nuanced take & I don’t say any of it even as a suggestion for what I want the team to do, but my excitement levels for 2026 go up a pretty good amount if Lions go defense in Round 1. I already view the offense as made to go. Top 5 last year even with all the struggles & I think you already upgraded it with Cade Mays alone. Tate Ratledge Year 2, ect. And I think Larry Borom is a perfectly capable starter. I see almost zero scenario that this isn’t a Top 5 offense again in 2026 even if they drafted zero offensive players. Not saying they should do this. They definitely should draft a tackle at minimum and probably early, but just to the point I’m making. But if you add a Top 20 pick to the defense … I just think it immediately makes you a better team. Or at least I can make an easier case for that. Let’s say you go EDGE. It’s either a starter at the most glaring hole on the roster or a contributor on the most glaring hole on the roster. Drafting a rookie OT, which again would be a perfectly reasonable and still a worthwhile pick, but doesn’t necessarily make you any better immediately. Hitting on the EDGE potentially turns your biggest perceived weakness into a strength.

I get the idea of not extending most running backs. But Gibbs is not most running backs. There are some guys you absolutely pay and Gibbs is one of those guys.

The weirdest thing I see some Lions fans complain about is that the Lions are in love with their own players. Then you see that a majority of those players are All-Pros and Pro Bowlers. Why is this a bad thing?

Football is a violent sport and early extensions (McNeil and Kerby) have hurt the Lions. For example, It didn’t make sense to extend Jamo when they did as he was still under team control.
